The Al Alquist - Ed Davis California Capitol Collaboration Project

WHO WE ARE

A bipartisan team of former California State Legislators altogether possessed of decades of experience and knowledge, enduring relationships and networks, together with an unwavering commitment to the people and State of California - dedicated to the development of trust - common purpose and collegiality, dialogue and learning, partnership and collaboration in the operation of the California Legislature, even all of state government.

OUR MISSION

To become a resource for current and future California Legislative Leaders and Members in their efforts to sustain collaborative success through developing working collaborations based on trust and common purpose while furthering a sense of collegiality in California's Capitol.

OUR GOAL

Recognizing the growing complexity of challenges facing the people and State of California in these times of profound change, globalization, and competition - to assist the Legislature and Governor in their efforts to deepen and sustain the spirit of collaboration successfully practiced in previous sessions as they seek to assure the quality of legislative processes and results in this era of term limits.

OUR ROLE

* Collaborating with Legislators and Constitutional Officers toward deepening a sense of common purpose and collegiality, trust and dialogue, partnership and collaboration.

* Participating with the Legislature in its orientation program for newly elected Legislators, especially regarding building a sense of collegiality and the ways and means of increasing productivity through partnership and collaboration.

* Creating the California Former Legislators Alumni Group (Cal/FLAG) – a network of former California State Legislators committed to becoming a resource for the current Leadership and Members.

* Hosting social gatherings for current members of the Legislature to help build a more deeply experienced sense of collegiality.

* Offering individual mentoring upon request - especially to newly arrived members of the Legislature.

* Developing a “tool box” for developing a sense of collegiality and creating a collaborative processes.

* Developing a booklet relating success stories of real life collaborative efforts from the past in the California Legislature.

* Leading a brainstorming process with current in search of particular ways to foster more collegiality and partnership.
